MDAccess - a Multi Dimensional Database Reporting Application

MDAccess is a Charting and Reporting program that displays data in Chart or Grid Report form from Sql Data Sources. MDAccess is the Windows version of Chart It. MDAccess provides easy access, display, and manipulation of selected subsets of that data in a flexible and easy to use manner.

MDAccess reports from either:
  • Sql Tables and Views
  • or
  • MDA databases made from Sql Tables and Views
Within MDAccess subsets of data can easily be selected and rotated by the different Dimensions to display those subsets of data in various Orientations, Plot Types, or Calculations. MDAccess reports from Sql Tables or Views directly, or indirectly thru intermediate MDA database made from those Sql Tables or Views. The source Sql Tables or Views for either direct reporting, or indirect reporting is listed below.

Sql Tables and Views MDAccess reports directly from:
  • Sql Server Tables or Views
  • MSAccess Tables
  • Excel Spreadsheets
Sql Tables and Views MDAccess reports indirectly from:
  • Sql Server Tables or Views
  • MSAccess Tables
  • Excel Spreadsheets
  • Oracle Databases

MDA Databases

MDAccess can report from any of the Sql Tables or View listed above, or it can report from intermediate MDA Databases made from those Sql Tables or Views. Reporting from MDA Databases provides additional functionality to the MDAccess Charts and Reports.

MDA Databases are a type of OLAP Database, which are discussed in this Wikipedia web site: OLAP Databases. MDA Databases can be Constructed by MDAccess, under the Database menu, or when a new Plot is being defined.

The Source Data Table or View can be any query or spreadsheet of data so long as there are columns with character data that can be used to represent the dimensions, and column(s) with numeric data to represent the measure values. See MDA Database Build for more details.

After the intermediate MDA Database is built from the Source Data, it's available for repeated use in MDAccess until no longer needed.

These files are Example data files to show how an MDA database can be created from data you may have in an Excel file or a Sql database.

TestData1.zip
Download MDAccess Test Data

TestData1.zip contains the following Example Data Files
File Name File Type Description
ExternalDataSource1.mdb Access External Data Source from which an MDA database can be made for MDAccess
ExternalDataSource1.xls
ExternalDataSource1.xlsx
Excel External Data Source from which an MDA database can be made for MDAccess (same data as above except an Excel Sheet instead of an Access Database)
MDATest1.mdb Access MDAccess input - an MDA Database made from ExternalDataSource1.mdb
MDATest1_with_
PreCalcs.mdb
Access MDAccess input - an MDA Database made from ExternalDataSource1.mdb, with Calculations added and Pre Calculated.
ExternalDataSource1.etd ETR savefile (optional) an ETR Savefile - for ExternalDataSource1.mdb input
JIYear2004Model
CountrywTotals.mdb
Access MDAccess input - an example MDA Database.
ExternalDataSource2
wElementNumbers.mdb
Access External Data Source from which an MDA database can be made for MDAccess. This is a copy of ExternalDataSource1.mdb, but has additional columns that are additional Attributes for the Elements. The new Attributes are the Element Numbers that can be used to order the elements in the Element Selector.
